4T Passport Partition

Bought a 2T Passport raid but found it doesn’t have enough space for my needs. Bought the larger 4T raid Passport.

Looking to partition 1T/3T, using the 1T as Time Machine B/U for my imac (running Yosemite) and the remaining 3T for file archive.

Opening the drive in Hard disc Utilities I find two 2T sections? But the whole drive appears as on section on my desktop?

If I partition one 2T section into 2x1T the other 2T section reads “missing”

How do I get the 1/3 config I want?
