3TB USB 3 My Book Essential Constantly Disconnecting/Reconnecting

I just bought a 3TB USB 3 My Book Essential, and pretty much since day 1 it disconnects and reconnects itself 5-10 times a day from my computer. I’ve tried:

-Updating the firmware

-Updating the software

-Plugging the power supply directly into the wall

-Checked all connections to/from the external and PC

-Both USB 3.0 ports on my motherboard

-Uninstalling SmartWare, (and now I can’t re-install it the same as it was before because I keep getting an error saying “Application not started from drive.” It’s installed on my internal drive, but the Backup and Retrieve tabs are greyed out, and it won’t let me do anything on my external, the Home tab only shows my computer.)

-I’ve tried changing the sleep settings back when I was actually able to use the WD SmartWare software to never let the drive sleep

-Changing Windows USB power settings to never let USB devices sleep.

I’m quickly running out of options to try. It’ll just disconnect for a second and reconnect while I’m using the drive to watch a movie, play a game or even transfer files. Just tonight I left a large transfer running, and when I came back, only about 1/2 of it had finished because the drive unmounted while it was transferring. Does anyone have any other solution to try? I’m currently transferring everything back off of this one to try the quick format option in hopes that that might do something useful, like let me actually use the WD SmartWare, or maybe even let the drive stay connected for more than 2 hours at a time.

Thank you.

Test the drive with chkdsk, Data Lifeguard or other software

try a different USB cable

Quick test ran fine, running the extended test now.

So the extended test said it failed.

Test Error Code: 08-Too many bad sectors detected.

So what does this mean exactly? Do I have to RMA the drive?
