3TB drive works on all computers but mine!

Strange, but i can’t get to the bottom of this.  Any help would be appreciated.

Running a Dell 9010 with Windows 7 64bit.  The device in question is a My Book Essentials 3TB USB 3.0  Here is a laundry list of details and what i have tried thus far.

  1. This device used to work on my machine just fine up until a couple of weeks ago.

  2. It works on all other computers just fine. Many of which are the same model as the Dell i have.

  3. I have tried all USB ports on my system to no avail.

  4. All other usb key and drives work just fine on my system.

  5. It shows up in the Device Manager under the Disk Drives section as “WD My Book 1140 USB Device”. The error says, "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

  6. It does not show up in Disk Management as a drive or volume at all.
    7. I have tried reinstalling drivers. I have uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled from the device manager, all to no avail.

  7. I have booted in safe mode and the behaviour is exactly the same.

Thanks again.

Thank you for that link.  I was looking for the specific KB article pointing to the registry aspect of this problem.  Unfortunately i tried all detailed there as well all to no avail.  I found the specific driver key value of the hard drive in question and found the corresponding registry keys denoted in that article.  I deleted the upper filter entry.  This had no effect.  I would then uninstsall and then reinstall in the device manager and the upper filter would populate just as before.

I also tried all of the above in safe mode.  I got the same result.

At this point the cost benefit ratio of putting further effort into this confounded thing is not prudent.  So i will relegate it to other machines and buy another brand for my desktop system.

Thanks,
