I have a 3T My Book Essentials EHD that I use to store photos and Photoshop Elements documents on my Win 7. I have used it for over a year. Yesterday, when trying to save a large .psd file, it froze and when I rebooted, it didn’t show the drive at all. Rebooted again and it showed a drive, but did not load anything. Rebooted again and now it says: “You need to format the drive in disk “I” before you can use it.” No actual drive shows on this computer or my other older computer using XP. I am sick! Have I lost my data forever? I appreciate any input!
Hi,
I really feel for you, being a photographer myself. I have lost irreplaceable images, though at times I have had some fairly miraculous recoveries.
I can’t really give odds on recovery as the My Book drives have hardware encryption. Under the circumstances I would contact WD Support directly and see what assistance, if any, they can offer.
