3D verses non-3D

I have a dell laptop and want to upgrade it to an SSD. Dell recommended the WD Blue 250GB PC SSD - SATA 2.5 Inch Solid State Drive - WDS250G1B0A but I see there is also a WDS250G2B0A which is a 3D. What does 3D mean and will it be 100% compatible?

Dell Laptop is a Inspiron 14z N411z bought new in 2012.

Thanks!!!

3D is a newer NAND technology where the NAND is made in 3 dimensions instead of 2. there are some benefits for the manufacturers such as higher densities and lower cost per GB and there are some benefits for users such as lower power consumption, reliability, and sometimes faster write speeds.

From a compatibility standpoint both are the same. If a 2D SSD will work in your system a 3D should as well.

Doesn’t 3D NAND have a longer life as well? I think I saw that somewhere…

3D NAND does have a longer life span as well as it’s faster than a drive without it. I DL a 20 GIG file tonight on my new drive with V NAND and it took 10 mins on my WD blue without the V NAND it took 23 mins to DL the same file. though i cost a few bucks more but worth it to me
