2TB Passport with 1.01TB says read only

I have been using this 2TB Passport for 2 years with the sam iMAC for my Time Machine backup. (Both new at the same time.) It worked fine until now. It says it has 1.01TB available but can’t back up because disc is “ready only.” How can I fix this?

To fix the “read-only” issue with your WD Passport, start by checking the drive’s permissions in Disk Utility on your iMac and making sure they’re set correctly. You can also try running the First Aid tool in Disk Utility to repair any errors. If that doesn’t work, reformatting the drive (after backing up your data) might help.
