2TB MyBook - quick format 12 hours plus?

My 2TB MyBook recently started giving me horrendous write speeds over USB2 (around 8 hours to write 500 megs). So I pulled off the drive what I needed and tried a quick format from Windows 7. So far, I’ve been waiting over 12 hours and still nothing. I’m figuring my drive is toast, even though it’s only 2 months old. Is there anything else I can try before I return it ?
