2TB External HDD facing problem

Hi I bought my external harddrive 3-4years ago, it was working fine till recently.

Here is the problem, when I plug it in, I unlock with my password and start using it by watching a video. The video will play for 16 seconds and suddenly my Window Media Player would freeze and become not responsive. After that if I try to do anything it would freeze and crash my Window Explorer. Lastly, I try to scan it using a anti-virus, it causes my anti-virus to crash as well. Whatever program or software I used with it get crashed.

PS: My harddrives stores mainly videos, music, computer games

Anyone has any idea how to solve this issue?

Hi, run a test with DLG to see if the hard drive has any hardware problems, if the test complete successfully, it might be a data corruption problem. To fix that, backup all of the important files and format the external drive. Check the link below for the DLG test.

IT doesn’t help, it would just freeze and crash the DLG Software too.

Drive could be dieing. It is not unusual for one of the heads to go bad, and if your drive is that old it might have 4 platters and 8 heads inside. Sometimes drive would still operate even with degrading head in the stack as long as that head is not in charge of working with service area of the drive. That or bad sectors…
