Just got a new 10Tb Elements drive [25A3], generally very happy with it – except that when it goes to sleep after a few minutes, it takes as long as 20sec to spin up to access it. I have other WD drives now and in the past, and never seen anything as long as this. Are other folks seeing this too? Is it “normal” for this drive, or something wrong with my unit?
(I’m very familiar with sleeping and spinning up, and am aware of ways to keep it spinning–just 20sec seems like an extremely long time so I wanted to see if it’s RMA time or not.)
unless you’re comparing spin up speeds between one 10TB drive and another 10TB drive taking significantly longer then i think you’d be wasting your time RMA’ing it.
I have smaller 4TB drives that take probably 5~10 seconds to ‘spin up’ … but i would realistically expect larger capacity drives to take even longer.
