2 new drives acting like failing one

I’ve purchased a wd greeen 3tb and a black 2tb both new from separate sellers.

I currently have a ssd, 2 full size hdds and a laptop hdd in my machine that i would like to squeeze into the hard drives.

When I plugged them in, is started to prepare them for encryption first. I thought these were supposed to be like other hard drives where it would be plug and play like every other one and yet I couldnt write to them, both of them…

The sata cables work with the other existing drives, but the wd ones cant write data, or if they do, i cant read it back. They appear normal, that is untill you attempt to do any io with them, the system would hang, then give u something, or it would fail outright…

Could it be my motherboard pcpartpicker com/product/CQH323/gigabyte-motherboard-ga990fxaud3, linux or maybe the sata cables?

I don’t want to return these drives as I’ve been looking forward to using them
