I purchased a 1TB WD 2.5 and a optical drive replacement caddy for my Dell E6540 expecting it to show up as an additional drive in the same format as an external drive. It does not show up when I open “Computer”. Intel software wanted to integrate it as a permanent portion of the “hard drive”. I was hoping to carry several of these in my bag to access files without the traditional external caddy and cable hanging off of the computer. Is it possible to have it appear as an external drive but in the optical caddy?
If the hard drive is new then it will have to be initialized and formatted within disk management before you can use it.
