Since two days my hard drive makes a click noise once in a while. It happens when the notebook is idle. Then it happens every ten seconds approximately. It makes the same noise when the notebook shuts off. It is a internal WD7500BPVT-22HXZT3 and it is 2,5 years in use.
Considering the moments it happens it could be head-parking noise related to hard drive spin-down behavior. However, just to be sure I’d recommend running a health test using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics.
I did the health test and everyting is good. I think I already solved the problem. A couple of days ago, I disabled Acer Epower service. Since then the clicking started. So now I have enabled it again and now the clicking seems gone. The progam seems to have influence in head-parking.
