I have 2 Red 16TB drives in a Synology DS223 and when they are just sitting and not being accessed they click every 3 to five seconds for hours. Its like water torture to listen too. its not spin or fan noise and its not reading or writing noise. its just when it parked or in standby. what’s going on and is it normal? will it shorten the life of the drive? how do I make it stop? can’t listen to it anymore… Help
First, you should check the SMART data for the drive. You’ll have to consult your Synology docs for the steps.
