After reading WD Community answers ID 568 and ID 70, my conclusion was that I probably had a failure in the motherboard of the unit, but not the hard drive. Reading further, WD says that repair of such a unit is not done by WD…that I should purchase a new unit. Thanks very much, WD. So, I decided to disassemble the unit to isolate the hard drive and have easily done so. It is a WD10EAVS hard drive. The ‘stuff’ I would like to retrieve, that is unfortunately not backed up elsewhere, is on this hard drive.
Question: Is there a device with a USB or other type of port that will allow me to download the contents of this WD10EAVS hard drive onto a my desktop? Alternatively, just looking at the standard SATA Power/Serial Data port on the drive, does someone know if my desktop might be able to access the contents with its spare (2nd) hard drive slot, either directly or with an adapter of some type?
