1 TB hard shows 800 GB of used data, but only 300 GB of data shows up

Hi,

1 TB hard shows 800 GB of used data, but only 300GB of data shows up. 500GB of data missing.  I just spent hours trying to figure this out with a Carbonite tech. Looks like my D: [backup drive] with 500 GB of data is in my C: drive, but not showing up anywhere.

Using 8.1 with the basic setup, nothing special.  Please advise,

Hello, welcome to the community.

Try enabling “Hidden files and folder” and see if you have any hidden files that might add to the space that you are missing.

Found the answer!  The missing file was in system restore using 500GB!
