After upgrading to the 1.02.24 firmware I have the annoying problem where MKV file is actually playing and the WD screensaver icon goes into action after a few minutes. Does anyone else have the same issue? Is there a hotfix for it?

How are you playing the MKVs? Are you navigating via the WDTV menus and hitting PLAY, or are you using a DLNA server and saying “Play To?”
I’ve never had a problem with MKVs. But I don’t use DLNA (except for PlayOn.) I watched about 5 or 6 movies this weekend and didn’t have a problem with the Screen Saver activating in the middle of it…
