You really should allow modified content just like the other two have, people love the ability to show off there new tech even more so if they can modify it a little and make it ultra cool! As it stands your Hub version and the WDLiveTv gen 1/2 are the only ones that allow this if i had known that when i was ordering 3 gen 3's i would of got the earlier models!
Themes are good, but custom movie sheets and less firmware limitation is better why is some the old stuff ALWAYS better thanthen new stuff!!?!
There needs to be a better system in place for those of us who have both our movie collections and our TV shows (across multiple HDDs).
We need to be able to combine folders in our Media Library, or be able to have a seperate Media Library just for TV.
An example as to why it doesn't work right now is, the only way to have your movies alphabeticalized across multiple hard drives is the Folder->All view. You can see how this would be a problem if you had over 500 TV shows in the "01 - Episode Title" format.
Right now the only solution seems to be to either
A) Buy another WDTV just for TV shows B) Reformat all my drives and raid them
A) isn't happening because I'd rather buy a more expensive player than have to buy another one. And B) isn't happening because I don't have an extra 15TB hanging around to transfer everything over.
Anyway, hopefully you guys do something to update your firmware for this.
Going to be looking at what Popcorn Hour has to offer in the meantime.
Please hear me out... I really would like to see volume controls added to the base functionality of the WD TV Live SMP.
While I can appreciate the adding of a volume control to the iOS/Android apps, this does not help those of us who do not have iOS/Android devices, or who do not wish to use them. I see no reason why volume controls cannot be added to the core functionality of the SMP itself. Western Digitial is continually rewriting the code for the firmware, after all, surely your programmers could add this function along with their other fixes? And there are plenty of buttons on the included remote control that are not otherwise used during media playback.
The WD TV Live is a fantastic player, but DRC does NOT work with DTS audio of any kind.
Some of us enjoy watching movies late at night, so a "Late Night" audio option that normalizes the sound would be fantastic. This would keep the sound from fluctuating from very low to very high and would keep the sound steady so that the overall volume on the TV or stereo system can be lowered while still being able to enjoy the audio at night.
I prefer the name "Normalize Audio" but "Late Night Mode" is probably more understood.
as the initial build of the media library and/or content information takes "forever" for my 3TB drive, would it be possible to have a PC software to do the job on the USB drive ? It should save hours and moreover with another drive I could watch movies meanwhile.
And I totally agree with that. Has passed for too long time and I am afraid that eventually we get nothing. I realize that there are difficulty to remove the pause between the different kinds of audio files. If you can not make Gapless playback for all kinds of music files I suggest limited to files described below. So, I mean, multitrack lossless files only - FLAC + CUE, APE + CUE, WAV + CUE. In multitrack lossless files not have a pauses between tracks. Pause between tracks artificially created after running the CUE file. I suggest that you run the Cue file, each track individually displayed and can be played without pauses wholly.
Really think you should put the (tesco) BLINKBOX app on WD TV as tesco is a very large company in the uk and have just luanched there own Hudl Tablet (similar to i pad).
In the uk this will, im sure end up bigger than net flix, love film ect, as blink box is showing latest releases and also offering rental aswell as buying options.
I just bought wd but now im thinking of pulling it out and buying another live tv system as i want BLINKBOX, im sure you will miss out and loose out in the uk , Unlesss you start putting more options like BlINKBOX on there.
TESCO as im sure you are aware are the largest retail shop in the UK.
I'd like to request an option in the settings to change the default behaviour of the power button.
The possible selections might be:
Network-Stand-by (this is the current behaviour upon single power button press)
Power off (this is the behaviour for 5 second power button press)
Having the device going to stand-by (which consumes around 5W, depending on possibly attached USB devices) by default is actually the opposite of what the user wants.
I've never had a talk to any WDTV HD Live user who'd want the device to stay in such a stand-by mode. Plus, it is not quite a "green" approach for such a device. (considering as well that EU law forbids such high power consumptions during stand-by)
Allowing the user to change the power button to switch the device off completely would also help the users who are controlling the unit with a universal remote, as many manufacturers only allow for a single key press)
I'd appreciate if WD would consider such an option.
What this all in one media player is currently lacking for me personally is the ability to play my music/music video collection randomly, this could be achieved by allowing video in the music section. Pretty simple. Continuous play. Once an episode of a tv show ends it would be nice to continue to the next file automatically (also great for music video collection) Jukebox Mode. Set a folder full of audio files and video file to play how you want, the way you want. Let the good times roll???? I REALLY would use these options every day and it would enable me to remove my computer/network blueray player from the TV thereby making this great device a true All In One solution.
With the availability of faster USB3 external hard disks, it may be worthwhile to have an improved WD TV Live with USB3 ports instead of the current USB2 ports. I already included the following suggestion in an older post - it would be extremely positive to have the ability to read an ebook in a large monitor with the use of an upgraded WD TV Live. I would consider formats like TXT, PDF and Epub as a minimum list of supported ebook formats.
I own a WD TV LIve SMP and I love that it can play all the video formats I own.
I use it with a Full HD TV(Samsung 40F5100) dedicated to watching content (both SD and HD) with WD TV Live SMP.
The issue is, I miss the option "fit to screen" on WD TV Live SMP .
Of course I can do it with zoom functionalty of the TV set for the video being played but the problem is in the zoomed out mode :
I cant see the duration of the video, "skip to" button as the WD bottom bar is not visible when TV is zoomed out.
I have to switch between 2 remotes (TV and WD) to switch the content and zoom in/out , which is not very convenient.
I think this feature would definitely add a value to this product .
I know some people prefer to see the video in the original format 16:9 and 4:3.
But with "fit to screen" option viewers can keep the TV on one fixed ,zoom or wide zoom mode making it more convenient for all.
So I guess, to summarize the take away would be the convenience to use "one remote" which watching and switiching through videos of varying aspect ratios which I dont feel is very hard to achieve and is a definite value addition for an already great product.
It will be nice, if WD add some online cinemas services for Nothern Europe, something like tvigle.ru, megogo.net, for Russia you add ivi.ru, so you don`t have any problems to add services like tvigle.ru or megogo.net, becouse they are like ivi.ru, but works for all regions, not only in Russia. Now you don`t have any useful service for our regions, only youtube or vimeo. So just think about yours Nothern Europe customers ( Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and others.)
