I just upgraded the WD My cloud in Windows to version 1.05.40 and was pleasantly surprised to see it reads music playlists. I exported my iTunes playlists to the NAS and the program is then able to play through the playlists. Good job.... Now, this same feature is absolutely neccesary on the IOS app too.
In IOs you have to play songs one by one or try your luck with 3rd party apps, of which I've tried a few and none really does it for me.
Hello! My idea is a new function in the software "WD SmartWare Pro".
You have already the option to copy your backuped files. For me it would be great if you can move those from the backup to. So, if you have delete something from your harddrive that you do not need anymore you can move it from the backup and delete it as well. As a photographer, that is very interesting because you sort out the images on the pc and you do not want to backup the bad one's.
Of course it would be nice if this new function only shows me the files that I already delete from the backuped harddrive like the copy-function does!
Currently if you manually upload photos and you leave that screen it pauses/STOPS the upload of photos. I need it to still keep uploading the photos in the background. Also please make it Automatically upload when new photo is discovered. Please add to next firmware as feature.
WD SmartWare (Pro) should be allowed to backup files to anynetwork drive, such as a custom built home server (running Windows Home Server or Windows Server), and not just WD NAS devices or routers. It should not be difficult to implement, as SmartWare Pro already has the ability to back up to DropBox.
I purchased a 2TB WD drive for my personal server only to find that the Company's software cannot communicate with it, which is quite frustrating. SmartWare Pro has the pontential to be a better backup software than Microsoft's standard backup software, but only if WD enables it to be.
I use a WD My Passport because of its small size and especially because of its native hardware encryption. I frequently travel with the drive so I have no consequential concern if it is lost or stolen. Although I also have Seagate Backup Plus drives I do not use them when away from home because they cannot be encrypted.
I would liked to have sent WD some direct feedback but dissappointingly there is no real or convenient provison to send an email with product feedback. Nevertheless I hope someone in WD sees my comments below and forwards them for consideration.
I do not like the WD Smartware and think it could be easily improved. First, it could be much more friendly primarily because it provides no straightforward method of turning off scheduled and continuous backups and just making on demand snapshot backups. Second, a backup can only be started by specifying a single drive - multiple internal drives have to be each manually started. Third, the progress information now provided does not really provide anything useful.
I only use the drive to backup both my main (C) SSD with the Op system and an internal (D) HDD used for bulk storage. My backups are always made on demand, never via a schedule or continuously. They are essentialy a snapshot when I feel it necessary to make a new backup. I also always backup both internal drives at the same time. Although WD Smartware works, it could be much more user friendly for making on demand snapshots of two or more drives and it would be nice if the display provided more useful information about the backup currently being made.
-Although I always back up both the C: and D: drives, I can only specify one drive at a time to backup so the backup of the second drive has to be manually started after the first completes. This is annoying and inconvenient because the backups are typically started at the end of the day and it it is necessary for someone, during the night, to start the backup of the second drive. Seagate allows specifying all recognized drives when using their Backup Plus drives so there is no reason the Smartware software also can't do this. Also, since there is not always someone to start the second drive during the night, it is typically a two day job to make a simple backup of both drives.
-Making a snapshot backup can be brute forced but it is not straight forward or convenient because Smartware short sightedly only is written to make either continuous or scheduled backups. There is no third option, like Seagate has, providing a "Snapshot" button and the ability to simply turn off both continuous and scheduled backups.
-The information displayed when a backup is in progress is worthless and confusing. The only thing that could be useful provided is the number of files written. Without knowing the total number to be written this statistic has little meaning. The data provied under "Files Not Backed Up" never seems to even come close to being accurate and I am not even sure what it is trying to tell me. I would like to see the following:
--Accurate progress indication such as total number of files (or GB) to be backed up, the number of files (or GB) already backed up, and the number of files (or GB) remaining.
--Estimated time to completion.
--Average data transfer rate (useful for many reasons like gauging how well the USB port is working, etc.).
Other similar software provides this information in an understandable format so there is no reason the WD cannot do this also.
Although the Passport is a great product but we purchased and invariably use the Seagate products (when encryption is not needed) because their software, although not great, is much more friendly and useful to use.
Hi, I have an Android phone and the WD app can see my internal drive and the external SD card, but the system is able to connect anything via micro-usb->usb cable. So I was trying to upload files from my camera to the WD my cloud but the app wasn't giving me the option to select from this external usb drive, only from internal memory or sd card.
I wish there's an option to select from internal, sd card and the usb drive attached to the smartphone, otherwise I have to turn the pc on to upload my videos everytime.
I see this problem haven't been fixed for months but... I'm still asking You to fix it, it changes all dates and names, uploaded 300 photos with random order what makes me mad, it should be a pleasure having this Cloud, not a problem... Tried to do it with different apps but it's not working also. And of course it doesn't mean nothing because I bought a WD and I want to use WD Apps... Waiting for some support and help
Having paid for Smartware Pro for use with an external backup drive, I was hoping it would prove a better backup solution than either the free copy of Smartware that came with the drive or Windows File History (Win.7 and 8). In fact, I have been disappointed because of the inability of Smartware (in either version) to remove unwanted files that have been deleted from the PC - as has been noted by many posters in these forums (I know you could do so manually but life is too short for that). In turn this means that your backup drive gradually fills up until the only way forward is to delete the entire backup and start over (or re-format).
This is NOT a safe way of operating as you will have no backup at all during the start-over process unless you have a second backup drive going as well, which would require using separate backup software as Smartware would not keep two backups going. This behaviour of Smartware occurs even if the Settings > File History tab is set to keep only 1 copy.
I suggest that Smartware Pro should include a facility to purge deleted, files. This is surely a fairly basic requirement for any backup software?
My question, then, is really one for WD; are there any plans to add this purging facility to Smartware Pro? So many of your customers would welcome it.
By the way, I have heard about WD Anywhere Backup having just this purging facility but, as a cloud-based system this is not open to me; I have over 300GB of data, you can imagine the upload time that would be required at current data rates (several weeks of continuous uploading!).
My own solution has been to have a second external drive and use Windows File History for that one even though there have been reliability issues with this software.
I like wd2go.com and there is one thing that niggles me. This is the front door to cloud storage that one would trust all their data with. More than Google drive, Dropbox, box, Amazon, etc...
Google accounts gives the option for two factor authentication and so does Dropbox which used Google's autnenticator.
Could WD2GO implemet two factor authentication? This need not cost WD more. Text messaging could be omitted with the user being e-mailed a time limited 6 digit code or use a recovery code if the authenticator is not available.
I would be a sleep a lot more each night knowing that if my WD2GO.COM user name and password was snatched that a hackwe would be stumped because they won't have access to my e-mail account, recovery code or code generator.
As a customer of several passports, I've also felt underwhelmed by our carry case offerings (a common use case). Today, as I view the WD Store, I'm not still compelled to buy any new carry cases. So, I continue throwing my passport into my bag which will likely gather dirt, wear/tear.
Let's solve this. We are missing out on the opportunity.
Create a task force to reinvigorate our full accessory line and better compliment each launch with well designed accessories.
We can even create an accessory challenge where top voted up ideas are validated with user/market research and ultimately gets produced/sold.
1. I think AirPlay out would be great to share videos to my TV.
2. When I give someone READ ONLY access to the cloud, I do NOT want them to be able to copy any of the files. Currently, they can still email links out to the files which allows them to download the file. The email link feature should be disabled if the person has READ ONLY access. I think this was overlooked in the app.

3. If the device runs so much better with a Static IP and Port Sharing - Update your installation program to do that automatically! I wasted two months trying to get my device to work consistently and finally after pouring over the forum I found the answers. Please save us the trouble and aggrivation!
