plex

the  media streaming provider Plex has a great potential to make the wd my cloud even better. the possibillity to play my most demanding hd movies or anything else anywhere on any device, but mainly movies. i´m sure your know that plex needs a media server in the form of a pc or a nas, if you then press nas when you are setting up your plex server alot of nas manufacturers appear, but saddly not WD. the great thing about plex for me atleast is that it will stream my media with a smaller bitrate if im streaming to my phone for exampel, and plex will play any codec in any container and the plex app is anywhere smart tv´s, phones, pc´s........

this whould make my wd my cloud even better, please contact plex to see if this is a possibillity

best regards

Hi there

I was told there isn't the option to have favourite fies/folders on the iPhone App?

You can do have them in WD Mycloud, why not here? It would be great.

Whilst it's great to transfer some folders to the Cloud for safety/remote access, if you change them on either your PC/Mac or Cloud they don't update. Leaving the other outdated.

I've seen someone mention utilising some Dropbox features. For me, if you could specify keeping some folders synchronised between the device and your PC/Mac that would be awesome!

Thanks

I hate the subfolders.  I take maybe 3 photos a month on my android phone and ipad.   So I have a million subfolders with just 3 pictures in them.

Please either go back to just one folder or give us the option to pick and choose whether we want subfolders.

Thanks.

Hi,

uploading Photos and Videos with my iphone works fine ... BUT ...

why are the files renamed and given a new date of creation(= date of upload)???

Please change this and keep the original name and date of creation ... second issue is

the most important, because when i upload older photos to my cloud

and there is suddenly the date of today with the old foto... thats very confusing !!!!

(By the way ... Microsoft had the same problem with skydrive app in first versions ... they solved is perfectly )

The issue of giving new date to uploaded files concerns even the windows desktop app ... there

is also given a new date to files when uploading them

( i solved this problem by connection as a network drive an copy with windows, but thats no as convinient

as the wd my cloud desktop app)

Since Blu-Ray use is growing daily I think it would be a good idea to add Blu-Ray ISO file playing capability.  That would include full operation of the menuh function and chapter skiping.

jpeg is only one of many file formats for photos. WD PHOTOS is terribly limited by handling only jpeg. please add support for tiff and the other popular photo file formats.

Why did WD chose to develop a small application (WD Smartware) that needs a whole .Net frame work to run?

Talk about a "sledgehammer to crack a nut"!

Looks like you really need some application development consultants to asssist your architectual decisions - light end user apps require a light or zero clientside/runtime environment (not a whole dev environment!)

Box.com support

Is there any plan to add BOX.COM to the cloud app? It is my service of choice, and the one that is NOT in the app! 😳

Their service is excellent, and it would be nice to have that support in the app. Thanks!

I would like to set up my own private calander on my WD Cloud Drive, not using google or anything more.

I came across some software such as ownCloud or baikal, which is a bit like dropbox or the WD Cloud App, plus a calender functionality.

Access could be enabled via WD Cloud App plus Desktop-Access when directly connected to the WD Cloud.

Any feature like is to come soon, or appearing worth developing?

Google Drive Sync

Status: Acknowledged
by 4 weeks ago

Hi,

This was originally p[osted here: http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-Software/Google-Drive-Sync/td-p/701728

I use Google drive (because Andriod and Google seems to go well together) and I sync all files with that between my PC's "Google Drive" and the Cloud storage. All photos are updated straight to my Google drive and it works well. But, I also have a WD Network drive (live), This also has all my files so that other family member can access then when at home.

Is there a way to Sync the WD NAS automatically with Google Drive without having to use a third party package (AllwaySync).

Thanks Dan.

Music player

I would like to have a better music player. All I can do is navigate at a set of folders and files of music. There are neither playlists nor random across all files (I'm restricted to the folder I'm in). The default to loop is awful when there's one track in a folder.

I notice that on my Macbook Pro 2009, I can use iTunes to navigate and it's great. That's the functionality I am seeking. Playlists, smart folders that I can set rules to using metadata, and a quick search feature. However, I notice that each time I connect, it forgets I unchecked some annoying tracks that I don't want to listen to. I assume this is an iTunes problem.

I notice on an iPad, the Apple music player does not pick up the drive's library. The WD2Go software for iPad and my Android smartphone run fairly similarly, as I have both, and it is lacking the features I'd love in a music player.

These comments are generally applicable to videos and photos, too, so it could be extending the music player software to a media player.

Thanks and keep innovating,

Stephen

I think that if WD2Go doesn't get into the media player business, perhaps WD could partner up with existing app developers and allow integration with the access to wireless personal storage. If Android, iOS, or apps like DoubleTwist could tap my drive, then I'd be a happier user.

All in all, I love my My Book Live more and more. The wireless and remote access to my files has helped me get past many moments of forgetfulness and poor planning when needing files! It has enhanced quick file retrieval while mobile and I'm loving my personal cloud!

I know I am not the only one out there on surface tablet. I got this because I could "Use WD’s free apps to upload, access and share from anywhere with your PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone" Last I checked a surface was a tablet... Please run support for this.

copy dropbox functionality

I just wanted to suggest that you please copy all of the Dropbox features and functions. Dropbox really got everything right including the ability to automatically download all your new photos.

If you did this I think everyone that uses wd would absolutly love using the cloud drive and they would reconmend it to everyone they know. I would!!!

thanks and great product.

Music/Media Player App

Please create an app which allows playback of music in a more user friendly manner which allows playing a whole album/artist/playlist (ie. in a similar way to Synologys 'DS Audio' app - which appears to have good functionality).

I've just purchased a WD My Cloud and I was really impressed with its ease of set up and the WD desktop and iOS app which allowed me to move & view files easily.  I am however very dissapointed with the lack of media functionality of the apps to the point where I am considering returning the product.

Please add plug-ins for the popular filesharing services such as:

Dropbox.com, Box.com, Amazon S3 and my favorite service Copy.com

Several other NAS offerings have it. This adds redundancy to our backups. This is essential.

Thanks!

"The" Removed From Alphabeticall Results

Status: New
by on ‎02-12-2014 03:48 PM

Hello.

I play all my movies on my WD Live Media Player via my external HDD's... Unfortunatley the software counts "The" in the alphabetical search results..

The first word after "The" should be used for the Alphabetical sorting... My old Seagate Media Player did this..

Wish my WD would do the same!

Non-java based WebApp for wd2go.com

Status: Unplanned
by on ‎02-07-2014 04:17 PM

Using Java in the browser is a terrible idea from a security and compatiblity perspective. There are a ton of security exploits and java in the browser should just be disabled by default. Also many mobile browsers don't support it.

Chromecast for MyCloud App

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎02-04-2014 02:17 PM

It would be great to see Chromecast added to the iOS MyCloud app functionality.  I see that AppleTV is already an option and I may need to just go with AppleTV but Chromecast is a fantastic device and cost $50 less.  Also does anyone know if there is any way to get the MyCloud to communicate with Plex?
