1- I cannot auto upload photos from iOS. I have to manually reload. Android users can do this, why not ios. 2- dates of images are changed and exif information lost 3- stores data in public folder, can not privately store images from iOS device. I bought the device to backup pc files and iPhone images from camera roll. I have to select all each time AND I have make sure device does not close or I switch to another app.
If WD would allow this (like they do #1 on android), I could see keeping the device. Right now, it is a failure. (Posts over the last 2 years does not add confidence)
When WD Smartware creates a backup, it assigns a meaningless name such as "Volume.474e546.7924....." It would be really nice if this backup could be renamed to something more meaningful such as "Pictures Backup"
Hi there. I bought the WD MyCloud device and it' really nice. But two annoying bugs (features?) of ios app makes it almost useless for me.
1) it doesn't play next track when ios device is locked. How should I listen to my music, with screen is always on? That's absolutely not a model of i-devices usage as players 2) ok, probably I should download my music to i-device and listen it locally. Let's try. Oupsss. It doesn't download folders with content. I wanna listen dozens of audio files and I cannot structure them by folders! What's happening? Why did I buy the WD MyCloud hardware since I cannot use in as remote player?
I recently purchased a new Android tablet running Android 5.0 (Lollipop). It only has 16GB of online storage so I bought a 64GB Micro SD card. Unfortunately, I can't write to it. There's a "save file to SD card" feature in the My Cloud app, but it doesn't work. Even if I move my My Cloud app to my SD card, it still writes my files to the internal memory.
Android 5.0 has opened up new APIs so that SD cards are usable. Please utilize these new APIs as soon as possible. I've been using a MyBook Live for years and I have a lot of files on there. I think the apps for iOS and Android have always been good - but this hurdle has to be overcome for me to continue using (and purchasing) WD's storage options.
Ideally, it would be great to just tell the app "Sync everything to my SD card no matter where you're installed". It would be wonderful to sync directories from my MyBook Live right to my SD card. Just restoring the fuctionality of the 'Save file to SD card' command would be a nice start.
i would like to suggest that the options that are included with the iPhone app be added to the Android app. My wife's iPhone has the following options when getting ready to upload phone photos to our My Cloud that I would really like to see in my Android app:
1. Option to select photos for operations
2. Option to Add a photo while being in a selected folder
3. Option to Add a new folder to her My Coud user folder rather than the default Public folder.
I think all the Android users would be encouraged to experiment more with the My Cloud device if we had more control of our uploads.
I really love our My Cloud since my wife's iPhone can now upload photos from her iPhone in a manner that works so much better so much easier than when we first bought it. She is now happy to get the photos off her iPhone and get them easliy organized on our My Coud. Thanks for the new changes to the My Cloud device and iPhone app. Now, if you could do the same for Android I could complete my joy. :-)

I cannot see how this drive(s) will benefit a professional photographer. Mostly, the archival enthusists as well as the professional photographer save their images in three major formats, RAW, Tiff, and DNG. All of these with embeded thumbnails are not viewable with the software provided by WD. How hard could this be people? When you are looking for a specific image to bring up, assumming you don't label every image independantly other than by model, date, or event, you have to literaly re-download all the images in a folder in order to find the one that you are looking for. In some instances this means folders that hold hundreds of images, some at 200+mb a photo, of the same event. When you have images that hold mega content this means A LOT of extra time. Please WD, think of workflow as well. Let other formats be visible via embeded thumbnai other than just simply jpg. images. I might have to change storage devices if this does not happen soon. A shame.
I am using my 2tb My Cloud as storage for a considerable number of documents which i access on a regular basis. I also use third party indexers such as x1 and Copernic to find my files on my PC but it appears next to impossible to do full text searches or any kind of information stored in My Cloud. I would be able to live with that if only the iOS app would allow me to reorder files in a directory by their names, dates, sizes or types, as you would with Windows Explorer.
I think this is a minor improvement that would go a long way to help users find what they need in massive storage folders.
This would give users a wider choice of means of access to their NAS device particulary with the poor and even non-existant functionality of WD Photos. I am sure there are several other third party apps that would be of benefit to WD storage users
Can WD release PC version of WD Photo for uploading photos from PC remotely instead of using WD Smartware. This will make is possible to transfer photos to devics such as legacy devices such as TV Live Hub remotely.
Is it possible to add a app store (like Google Playstore ) or other third party mareket place to download apps or possible to sideload android apps ? Additional apps will increase the utility of the product.
I have two WD TV Live hub units at different locations and if I need to transfer data / photos from one unit to another I was wondering if WD My Cloud app can be built as part of built in apps for this purpose (like the built in Youtube app etc). If not any other dedicated app for transfering data between WD devices would be appreciated.
As the title says. I will not put anything into the public folder as it leaves it wide open for anyone that can connect and browse through it to delete anything and everything. As admin on my own NAS machine, should I not have total control to change any and all settings/permissions on every share? Especially when it applies to the "Public" share? For me, it would be ideal to set permission for write only, so people could dump files, manipulate and delete only the files they have uploaded, but they would not have permission to alter files they have not uploaded. And the same would go with folder creation. I hope that's clear enough. Basically I want to be able to set more clear and explicit permissions based on what I, as the admin, decide I feel comfortable with.
Thank you to the Devs for your consideration on this subject.
Sometimes I go home from work. I would like to be able to increase the activity of the Smartware program during those times, I leave the computer on and a slow fan on my MyCloudMirror.
I have been running Smartware for over 2 weeks continously. I have over 800,000 files and 330 GB to backup initially.
So far it has done approx 120,000 files and 22 GB.
I dont know if this is an option, maybe its as fast as Smartware can go. I know there is a lot of indexing etc.
I have updated to Microsoft .NET framework 4.5.2 and this increased the throughput approx 10%
I had the earlier version for another WD hard drive backup and that used to drain the computer resouces so much it wasnt worth using. The current normal activity of Smartware is probably just about right once the initial backup is complete
