Question about the .tgmd file

Hey guys,

Probably a n00b question but I am lost…

When I first got my hub and used Thumbgen to create the folder jpegs, moviesheets, and whatnot it did not generate an xml file…probably an error on my part as I still don’t understand most of this stuff. Seems much different than theming android apps lol! Anyway, a .tgmd was generated and I was wondering what those files are for and if they can be used to generate the necessary xml files for different themes. I am currently using the DeVicious theme. I am not able to see moviesheets for the movies in any gallery views. I can browse the folders and see the file is there but they do not get displayed so I figured it has to be something with the missing xml.

A “.tgmd” is a Metadata File Created by Thumbgen

Put simply… it’s a ZIP file that Contains all the Posters, Background, Info etc.

(if you rename it eg.  Batman.tgmd  to  Batman.zip  you can Extract all the Info and take a Look)

Why is it Necessary ?   To Have this .tgmd file ?

If later on … a “Theme” comes out that uses a “New Moviesheet Design”  … you can Re-Generate or Re-Create the New Moviesheets without Having to Go “Online” and Re-Scrape all the Posters, Backgrounds and Info again !

Saving … Hours and Hours of Time.

An Example: Q&A From Another Post shows a Picture of What to ‘Click’ on.

So, if you have 100 Movies and a 100  “.tgmd” files for each Movie … you can process NEW Moviesheets in about 5-10 Minutes (On a Slow Computer)

Data for the XML’s is also contained in these .tgmd files … you just have to enable the option in the Options in Thumbgen.

The “Official Definition of TGMD File from the Thumbgen Website”

http://thumbgen.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=63:art-metadata&catid=35:faq-general&Itemid=54

A metadata file (having .tgmd extension) can be generated (optionally but recommended) during processing of the movie files. It contains the .nfo file (movie info) and full size images for cover, background and 3 fanarts. Having this file will be very easy to reskin your sheets using another template via “Create from metadata” option in Files Browser. ThumbGen will use metadata information to generate new sheets (using the new template) without searching info/images again and without any user interaction being required.

Another advantage of the .tgmd file is that next time you want to adjust something about a movie you can instruct ThumbGen to load info/images from metadata (skipping this way the searching step) , modify some items and then generate a new metadata file with the modifications.

Alright…that makes more sense. Is there a certain option I need to enable to create the xml files? None were created when I used Thumbgen initally.

Nevermind: I think I got…needed to generate movie info files and change the extension from .nfo to xml. That correct?
