New model announced, which are the differences?

I see on Amazon there’s a new model announced, not yet available for purchase:

WD TV Media Player (WDBYMN0000NBK-HESN)

which are the differences? is the hardware internally different?

by reading at the descriptions of both, the only things that seem to stand out are:

  • miracast support for “beaming” your screen to the WDTV

  • customizable home screen

seems there’s no official announcement from WD though…

if a vendor like amazon has an early slip like this, I’d take it to mean that an official announcement is coming

http://www.amazon.com/WD-TV-Media-Player-WDBYMN0000NBK-HESN/dp/B00JXFM75Y/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

no clue when though, could be days, weeks or months

Looks like the device passed Wi-FI certification as well

Here

Note this at Amazon page:   Date first available at Amazon.com: May 4, 2014

Note that the wi-fi certification was a year earlier:  Date of Last Certification April 30, 2013

It all seems a bit strange: appears to be same as SMP model but with the Miracast tweek.  This is a “new” model?

very well could be, miracast might be the only difference

another interesting line

Firmware Version Product: V2.00.17_cert/A2G, Wi-Fi Component

I was hoping their next player had a SoC comparable to the Roku 3, or something just as fast as the Roku 3 at least, and an official Plex app as well.

Sounds like you need a Roku 3

probably a good idea at this point is that we should not start stating what it does not have

it’s not officially announced and the only thing apparent from what has been found is

added support for miracast

besides that we know nothing about the device

I would guess this is some sort of screw-up “announcement”, I’m not biting until WD says BOO, it’s here!  Yea, let’s keep the rumor mill to a total minimum right now.

Document not found, how about a screenshot next time?

Amazon have taken the link down  (i guess some one at amazon is gonna get a rap over the knuckles)

Which is why I hoped someone of the spotters would have made a screenshot of the page before it got taken down.

so grab a copy of this

it has more info that the amazon page had

Good old Google cache to the rescue:

Thanks, guys!

Glad the cache was still available, but the page actually scrolled down for a complete blurb with photos about this model (as there is for current model) but it basically said what the SMP says except for a sentence or two about having Miracast.  There was nothing else “new” mentioned.

Boy I hope this is a hoax.  No 5ghz and not much else.  Well if they fixed the networking and upgraded the processor that woudl be good.

Probably not a hoax, although it could be a modified version of SMP with Netflix removed and Miracast added.  They may not be aboe to sell new units going forward with Netflix included.  Just a guess on my part, here.

The New Player is listed on WDs Site…

Just called WD TV

No Netflix

Did I miss something?  What is the problem now between WD and Netflix?
