WDTV Remote doesn't work properly

Since I use YouTube a lot on my WDTV Live, I would love to have a way to quickly enter search text. WDTV Remote would have been a very handy solution for the same had it worked.

I have noticed several times that WDTV Remote has some major issue while working with the device. I have tried installing WDTV Remote on various phones. After first install it works like a charm. But from second launch onwards it fails to detect WDTV Live device which is present in the same network and was detected seamlessly on first launch.

Reinstalling the app on my phone makes it work again - but just for once and same problem repeats from second launch.

I have noticed this issue since long so it is not specific to any particular Firmware update I have done in recent past.

Plug in a USB keyboard to input your search text.

USB Keyboard as Rich said is a an easy way to do text. I’m not sure if a 2.4ghz air mouse will work with the device or interfere with it. Bluetooth might work as well.

I don’t have the problem you report, but try this app: WDlxTV MediaPlayers Remote

It’s an android alternative to wd remote app.

You can also connect to the WDTV Live from a web browser by going to it’s IP address.

So on your computer or phone, go to http://its.ip.address.here (for me it is http://192.168.1.140))

Then login (default password is admin)

Then click on Remote, it will show a pic of the Remote and at the top there is a Submit button

You can type what you want to search for in there.

So on my WDTV Live I l opened You type and went to search, then it brought up the alph numeric pad on the screen…then on my PC I type in what I wanted to search for, clicked submit, and within 2 seconds, it did the search.
