WD TV Live won't play video file

HI guys!

This is my first  time posting here. I have been having some trouble with some files that I trying to play on my WDTV and it says it is not supported.

My current configuration is:

  • QNAP Nas TS-212

  • WDTV Live (accessing the files through a shared network folder)

  • Samsumg HDTV

I have my WDTV access my files through the Wireless and it is connect to my TV through HDMI.

I have had this setup for the past 10 months and everything works fine. But I tried changing my video quality settings a bit and haven’t been able to play them on my WDTV. Here is what I got.

My first attempt with a HD FIle: DIT NOT WORK

I know that the first HD file was a lot different from the rest, but the second two seem pretty similar to me. Appart from the Maximum bit rate, I can’t see a reason for it not to work.

I appreciate any sugestions or tips on what I should change to make it work. I don’t mind having my HD file working, but it would be nice to have the SD one working.

The media information was extracted using MediaInfo.

Thank you very much,

Felipe

What Firmware are you running ?

2.02.32

As far as I know, this is the latest one officially released, right?

Also, i don’t know if that helps, but most of my old files were all using xvid and i tried the new ones using x264

You’re in the wrong forum.

The Forum is for the 2014 WDTV Media Playe r  Latest Firmware 1.02.17

MP4 Playback issue is resolved

Oops… My bad on this one!

THank you very much, Joey. I will try the suggested steps (rollback my firmware) and see the results. Thanks!

Well, sadly, I just reverted the Firmware and I still have the same problem. So I am still investigating the solution, if anyone has an idea, I would appreciate it!

did you do the last step … Factory Reset ?

There’s been lots of ideas suggested for the MP4 fix … the only one that works in most cases is “remuxing”

(this is a quick process and you don’t lose and quality) … if you wan’t to keep them MP4 then use

My MP4Box GUI :  http://www.videohelp.com/tools/My-MP4Box-GUI

also you can use MKVMerge (included in MKVToolNix)… but this will remux to MKV container

Hey Joey!

I tried the factory reset as well, but it didn’t work neither.

Regarding the remux, it fixed at least of the specific files. Now I will need to see what went wrong in the first place so I can have an automatized system that either includes the remux, or does it right in the first place.

I would appreciate if you had any input regarding that matter as well.

Thanks,

Felipe.

In case anybody else ran into the same problem, I am coming here to give the solution I found for this problem.

Thanks a lot for all your help, Joey. Thanks to you, I tried and realized that just Remuxing would solve my problem, hence I was lead to another thread of another forum that fixed my files. I created a script batch that ran through all my library and forced a remux on all my files. This is the thread:

https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/74045-automated-script-to-fixing-mkvs-in-qnap-for-couchpotato-sickbeard/

I had to modify the script a little bit to make it work for my case, but it was pretty much in there already. Hope that helps anybody that evers run on this problem again…

Best,

Felipe
