WD TV Live SMP as a wireless DLNA server?

Does it work off  a USB connected hard drive?  Does it work at all (I am not asking about  file sharing)? If not, that would be my suggestion to developers to include that feature. The objective is to be able to use DLNA client on mobile devices - tablets, smartphones, etc. to watch media content off the WD SMP wirelessly.

No, the SMP doesnt act as a DLNA server. Only the Hub has that feature.

‘‘Does it work off  a USB connected hard drive?’’

Yes. I have most of my movies on a WD MyBook attached to the rear USB port.

‘‘The objective is to be able to use DLNA client on mobile devices - tablets, smartphones, etc. to watch media content off the WD SMP wirelessly.’’

That works fine. I open the MyBook using Skifta or EStrongs or iMediaShare on my Acer A100 tablet. Doesn’t that mean the WDTV Live SMP is acting as a DLNA server?

No, it’s only capable of acting as an SMB server.

Unlike the Hub, there’s no Twonky app on the SMP which handles the DLNA service.
