It seems that my media player takes a good 90 seconds to actually start…anyone else run into that issue?

Since when are you having this situation?
Have you tried resetting the unit?
Are you able to confirm the firmware that the unit is running?
Yes, it has been like this for since several firmwares back. And since you can’t turn off network browsing even when you watch locally only, you’ll gonna have to live with it.
