AVI is a “Container” … inside the Container are the “Codecs” (This chart from the WDTV user manual)
From what ive read on the forum, none of the WDTV’s support “DV Codec” which is probably what your AVI file is.

After installing on your PC … (On your video file right click and open with Mediainfo select View > Tree then File > Export >Text > Save then open the *.txt file and copy and paste the info here)
