I have the newer WDTV. Because the hardware is supposedly identical between the SMP and WDTV, what is keeping me from installing firmware from the SMP on my WDTV? Since the latest update to the SMP, it seems that it now has all the features of the newer WDTV (miracast, usb apps, ect.).

Just to note: the file sizes of the firmwares are not indentical

You cannot install firmware for one model onto another. There are internal mechanisms that prevent this.
