The problem is that for some reason the HDMI video output is stuck on 720P/50Hz even though I have the output resolution of the SMP set at a fixed 1080i/60Hz. To get it to recover I have to do a full power off of the SMP (hold down on power button) and even then when I turn it back on it takes a long time to switch to 1080i.
No, the front light is not on. I think it gets itself in a state where it becomes unresponsive and fails to power up.
