Netflix stuck at 720p

Ever since the newest firmware upgrade i cant get 1080 any more, xbox one on same tv and router ,no problem .
I have reset via button on bottom ,factory reset and rolled back the firmware still cant get higher than 720p.
Is it possible my wd smp is damaged?any help is appreciated thanks in advance

I am also having the same problem. I’m back to 2:01 and not solved. This limitation of Netflix in 720P appeared in recent days only. I noticed yesterday and today confirmed with tests. Brazilian friends tested ( http://www.htforum.com/vb/threads/175207-Club-of-WDTV-Live-Live-Streaming-G3/page337)) and confirmed the problem, pages 337 and 338.

have been reported also in English in another forum ( http://www.madamenire.com/forum/184-video-download-services-hardware/1304206-best-possible-netflix-streaming-device-45.html),,) pages 44 and 45.

Sory about my english.

Thank you for the reply very interesting ,can anyone else confirm if Netflix is displaying 1080 by pressing the options button on the remote .

I can confirm that the WD TV SMP is indeed stuck at 720p.

It’s been mentioned as well on AVS forums here:

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/184-video-download-services-hardware/1089285-netflix-streaming-quality.html

and here:

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/184-video-download-services-hardware/1595609-netflix-limited-720p.html

and the consensus seems to be, it’s the old Netflix UI devices

I can get 5800kbs superhd on my laptop, using the W8.1 Ntetflix player, so not an isp, or wdtv issue.

Call netflix, and open a complaint.

If we get enough people screaming, maybe we’ll get it back!

On v1.16.13 and netflix is stuck at 720p.

There must be a better avenue to get WD’s attention that this loney forum post.

This seems to be a Netflix issue, as other devices are also seeing the same issue. I have an Ethernet switch where I can watch the activity, and it’s generally normal. No congestion. If anything, once the buffer fills, the refills are now spaced further apart due to the lower bitrate.

I have to be honoust, I didn’t even notice this, until I stumbled upon this topic. I watched the movie Frozen Ground (SuperHD) yesterday, and yes, it indeed got stuck at 720p.

However, I don’t think WD is to blame for this, because of the fact that this issue is also encountered on other devices. On the other hand, I really can not understand why Netflix would choose to deliberately set limitations. Why, in Gods name??!

For me this is a principal matter, we could watch Netflix in 1080p on the WDTV until a few weeks ago and now suddenly we can’t. That raise questions, is WD informed about this by Netflix? And why do we (the customers of WD and Netflix) find it out this way (and so late)?

I am really disappointed about this…

Hi guys, we have passed this along to support.

http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?p=455039&sid=1d1683613c80b6ad0f5eee9fbfa5cb99

The news spreads… (and it confirms that more devices, mostly older devices with the old Netflix interface, have the same issue, since recently)

This has been affecting me since last Friday…720p, 3000 Kbps. Before that it was 1080 SD.

Tonight we seem to be back to normal,… again 1080 SD, and a transfer rate of 5800 Kbps.

I have the same problem, stuck at 720 where before I had 1080 all the time.

In the UK and I have a solid 60M internet connection via ethernet.

I have also sent a case to WD, I will also copy in Netflix and see what they can do for us.

Davedipster.

Just got a reply from WD…

Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Service and Support. My name is *removed*.

With the latest firmware release, support for the Netflix application has been removed.
If you need Netflix support, please see the following guide in order to roll the firmware back a version.

You can roll back your firmware using the following guide:

If you have any further questions, please reply to this email and I will be happy to assist you.

Yours Sincerely,

Now I am very confused

Here also back to normal

Now back to 1080SD, looks great but why not 1080HD?

dipster

It’s only mistake in the name. 1080P SD = 5800 kbps = 1080P HD

Works fine here again! I’m glad that it was a bug, and not a feature :smileyvery-happy:
