My Passport to WD Live TV

I seem to be having the same problem as a lot of people but the solutions don’t seem to match what I need to do.

Background:
I was using a 2TB Samsung device over the last 3 years with my WD live tv media player. It had an on switch, if I left ‘on’ switch on when I started the media player, I would see a white external hard drive icon on my tv and when I selected it, my tv would say 'the device could not connect to the network. If I turned the media player off and turned my hard drive off, then turned my media player on and THEN my hard drive on. I would see a black external hard drive icon and my media would be visible.

I just bought a 2TB My Passport and it does not have an ‘on’ or ‘off’ switch, every time I turn my media player on, I see the white external hard drive icon and when I select it, it says ‘the device could not connect to the network.’ I have not been able to view my files yet.

Can someone please help.

Hello,

As long as your router shares the drive on the network as a network share or media server the WDTV will be able to access it.

Check page #65 of the owners manual for more information.

Page 35 states that it will not work if there is not enough disk space or if it is set to read only.

I have it set to read and write and I have 500gb free.

How can I find out if my router is sharing the device?

My passport is set to format ExFAT. Would that be an issue?

Hello,

That’s the issue. The media player only supports:

NTFS

FAT/FAT32

HFS.
