Media Share Network Streaming - CRASHES

Hi everyone,

I just purchased my WDTV Live the other day, and have been enjoying using it, playing files without issue from a USB stick, and Netflix.

I decided yesterday to set up some of my media folders as shared files so i could view movies, etc. from the WD TV.

I was about 20 minutes in to the first movie when it froze briefly. I waited for a moment thinking it was just buffering, then the screen went black and the unit would not respond. The only way to get it working again was to physically unplug the unit.

I tried a second time after adjusting HDMI output and some other settings and ensuring I had no funky router settings turned on, and same thing… 15 minutes in to a different movie, the unit froze. this time after a few minutes it kicked back to the file browser screen, but was locked up and would not respond.

Has anyone experienced this issue before? Any known fixes? I tried Googling but most threads with similar problems seem to end in despair… haha. Hoping I can keep this box as I like the varied format support and the price was right as I got it on sale.

Thanks all!

Hello,

Have you updated the firmware on it? if you have, then I recommend doing a power cycle and/or a reset and then trying to play these files again.

I’m having the EXACT same issue. Netflix is fine, never crashes, but when playing local content Via Windows share the unit will freeze randomly, sometimes 20 minutes in and sometimes 40 minutes in. It will either lock with the image freezing, or turn the screen black and freeze. Only solution is to plug it off the power. This started happening yesterday, while I’ve updated to the last firmware about 2 months ago.

There were no changes made to my network settings or router, nor to my PC.

Please help!
