Can't get Multi-channel PCM audio over HDMI to work

Hi… I have just bought a WD TV Live (Gen 3) and have run into a problem getting Multi-Channel PCM to work over HDMI.

I have upgraded the Firmware to 2.01.86 and have no problems outputting Dolby and DTS over HDMI.

But when I try to do the same using Multi-Channel PCM, I always get 2 channels.

To set this up, I simply go into “Manual” settings… Deselect all of the audio modes… And then tick “PCM”… And then I specify 6 or 8 channels (I have tried both)

But after this, when I go back to the video, it plays in 2 Channel PCM.

In contrast, if I do the same on my Sony PS3, and deselect all Audio modes other than “PCM 5.1”, the SAME video plays in 6 Channel PCM.

I have tried everything and I simply can’t get anything more than 2 channel PCM out of my WDTV and if I can’t solve this, the box is of no use to me, as I need PCM support for AAC!

I really hope you have a solution and I look forwards to hearing from you

Jon

After doing a bit of research, I am getting the feeling that this simply isn’t possiblel… The WDTV doesn’t transcode any audio formats over to PCM, like the PS3 does.

So I guess I just need to accept that this is how it works, move on and convert my AAC movies to AC3.
