Best way to remove items from usb media library

I have a bunch of stuff I would like to remove from my media library that is on an attached usb drive. I’ve found in the past that sometimes just attaching the drive to my laptop and deleting files/folders can cause problems. Although deleting them one by one with the WD remote through the interface can be tedious. If I delete them from my laptop should I delete the .wd meta folder that’s in the root of the device or something like that to force it to rebuild the library maybe? Thanks.

That is the less bad option of the 3, and the one I usually do.
