24p playing at 50hz not 60hz

I just bought a WDTV Live Streaming ‘PAL’ version in the UK: WDBGXT0000NBK

My TV is a nice old Panasonic plasma, but it doesn’t have 24p input, just 50hz and 60hz.

I expected the WDTV to play 24p content at 60hz (3:2) just like a blu-ray player. However, no matter what I try it plays it at 50hz (reported by TV) and it is very juddery.

I have video set to HDMI Auto, and Match video framerate to ON. 50hz content plays at 50hz and 60hz content plays at 60hz.

The only way I can get it to work is to manually select 60hz HDMI output, then the 24p plays at 60hz and it is at least watchable just like a blu-ray.

Please, what am I doing wrong?

Hello,

What firmware version does it have?

Firmware 2.02.32

Playback from local USB. Tried a fresh Blu-ray Disc backup of raw folder structure, same result. Tried different TV also without 24p input, same result.

Looks like HDMI Auto (Match video framerate) dont work on 2.02.32.

IIRC, Auto Framerate only applies if your display supports 24p.

I don’t think it’s going to switch from 50 (native) to 60 just because the source is 24.

If you don’t have a 24p display, I’d suggest turning the feature off.

Doubtful, I’m seeing no judder on 24 FPS files on my TV.
