Which firmware?  1.07.15
What happened? When I'm watching a movie 1080 from rear USB port, the video stops working, it freezes and after 20-30 seconds it unmounts the hard drive with message that says " to remove safely your hard drive". The device is still working, but to make the WD TV recognize HDD again
What were you doing? Playback the 1080p files from the HDD USB 3.0 connected to the rear USB port I have to reboot the tv live and unplug and plug back again the HDD.
Does this happen every time? Yes ,when HDD connected to the rear USB port

Did this happen with previous firmware? Yes I tried filmwares 1.04.12  , 1.05.18 , 1.06.04, 1.07.15, but the problem remains.
Does power cycling the unit solve this? No
Does resetting to factory defaults solve this? No
Have you tried this on other devices? My PC - Windows 7  & SMP from front USB port playback this files without problem.

I think, this happens with exactly models SMP revision 01 (P/N: WDBGXT0000NBK-01 & P/N:WDBHG70000NBK-01) I do suspect that may be a difference between models ending with "01" and "00"(revision "01" and "00"). If you could please indicate the model number (regarding the revisions: "00" or "01") in your responds. Number of the model and revision is located at the bottom of the device.

  I have the same problem.

1080p files more than 18 GB picture freezes on disc with USB 3.0  connected to the rear USB port.
The same files are played without any problems from the front USB port.
WD TV LIVE SMP and WD Elements USB 3.0 1 TB took part in the experiments.
Update: I have SMP model PN WDBGXT0000NBK-01

Same problem here:

when USB 3.0 in rear port , the movie plays with stuttering.

when in front usb, the movie plays fine.

same hd in usb 2.0 case, there is no problem when connected to rear or front port!

sorry for my english, i'm german. :smileywink:

I have the exact same problem with the WD SMP. I planned to use the rear USB port for hard drive and the front port for USB stick.
But rear USB port refuses to work correct with my disk USB 3.0 Transcend 750 GB.

Hi, I have recently purchased WD TV Live Streaming Player and two HDD WD USB 3.0. I'm experiencing exactly the similar problems with the rear USB 3.0 plug. I'm strongly disappointed... What happened to the so long time respected by me Company WD...? Did you occasinally hire a low-educated engineer-designer...? I've been using a WD TV Live player for few years with not even a one claim. So, as I understand, the problem rests in this new hi-speed interface USB3.0. But why only the back plug? Would you consider an e-SATA interface in future...? Anyway, my question is: are you going to fix your firmware...? In other words, should I wait for your driver errors correction, or just return the product to the WD seller...? With respect, Dr_Slava

Again I've been connecting my HDD to the rear USB port and found out, than not only the files 1080p, but also files mkv 720p start playing for a few minutes and then the device keeps freezing. After ejecting the HDD I found that there is no folder .wd_tv

I just purhaced this device today and have exactly the same issue.. I use latest firmware Release 1.07.18 (4/4/2012)

I thinked that my HDD is broken[My Book Essential 3.0, WDBACW0010HBK-EESN] or not compabible with this device, and wasted all day in attepmt to figure what's wrong.

Currenly i've placed it in front USB port and looks like got some improvment,

but dunno yet, need more time to test it..

So it looks to be firmware bug or...?

Ok, but is there solution for this?

Does WD support is working over this issue to fix it?

Thanks

Fix how? As mentioned in the other threads my 1 TB USB3 worked flawlessly when attached to the back port. There seems to be some kind of incompatibility between the drive you're using and the SMP.
