Just Purchased a WD Live and I am running into media streaming issues.
My Server is a 2.8 Dual Core 4GB of Ram Windows 2008 R2 64bit.
My issues are I can stream just about anything but when i stream 1080p Blue Ray rip it starts to stutter.
If I take a usb drive with the same movie it plays it just fine.
Any suggestions ?

If you look in the netwroking section you’ll find plenty of reasons why and most people say to hardwire the network. If you want to do wireless here is alink to another post in the forum that seems to have very sweet results. http://community.wdc.com/t5/Networking/SOLUTION-TO-STUTTERING/td-p/25768

Welcome to the forums.
Wired is always the way to go for full streaming of non-compressed blu-ray rips. I had issues until I wired up my setup and now things play just fine.
I have it hardwired to a Cisco 2960G Switch, Gigabit cable but I know the WD only does 100mb.
There are blu-rays that exhaust the WD’ ability to decode.
Are these RAW rips? Or, are they further compressed? How big of an M2TS file are you talking about?
(Post the TEXT Output of MEDIAINFO here so we can have a looksee.)
These are MKV ripped at 1080p , I have the movies on a External WD Elements 2.0TB and they play fine. How would decoding come into play when on the USB HD they play fine but through the network not so much. I know its not my switch because I tested. Is there a tool I grab the info of the media file.

Ok, I missed that part.
Post the output of netstat -es on the machine that’s hosting the shares WHILE the MOVIE is playing.
I’ll work on that going to work i’ll post it later tonight.

That’s a pretty high percentage of Packets Discarded. Yours is about 1 in a thousand, mine is more like one in a million.
Your TCP Retransmission ratio is also VERY high, about 1 in 10.
Mine is more like 1 in 10,000.
It seems as if you’ve got something wrong with your network when the discard count and retransmit counts are that high.
Packets seem to be getting lost somewhere…

If you have this problem with any 1080p movie, then there definately is something wrong with your network. If you only have it with a few, very high bitrate 1080p movies, then this is just ‘normal’ behaviour unfortunately. In most cases you wont get more than 25 Mbps via Samba, while Bluray has in theory max 40 Mbps. The only way to solve it is to go NFS (where you can get around 75 Mbps)

Does the WD support NFS natively or do I have to Hack the WD so it can support it.

Only the homebrew version supports NFS, there’s tons of topics on it in the wdlxtv forums.
So i have a feeling the WD Live dosnt likes Layer 3 Gig switches, I tried my existing switch which is a 24 port L3 Gig switch and a 48 port same model and i am getting suttering. I put the server with the media and the wd live on a 5 port gig netgear and i have no problems.

Are you doing L3 Switching between the WD and your media source?
How are you doing this? The WD can’t discover systems that are on different subnets, and DLNA, as far as I can tell, can’t do it either, unless you’re doing bridge groups or whatnot.
On some cheap L3 Switches, doing L3 has a performance penalty, but I thought I saw that you’re using a Cisco 29xxG switch, so that won’t apply. I’d be curious to see your switch’s config. :)

Sorry, Yes I do have L2 switch my Cisco 2960G 24 Port (main switch or switch I should return back to wk) I also have 2 Nortel’s 5510 24 and 48 Port. I get suttering across all the switches. The Cisco L2 switch I erased the config and went to factory as well as the 5510. Sorry about my previous message if it was confusing long day dealing FW upgrades at work.
The odd thing about it all is if I plug a 5 port Netgear Gig switch and plug the wd on it and use any of the above switches
no issues at all streaming. jumbo frames not enabled between Netgear or any of the above switches.
I think this weekend i might try to plug the wd straight to my fw and try that as well.
Ohh and no , I am using the L3 switches as L2 switches no routing at all.
