I hope someone can help me to solve the problem: my WD Live can see my PC (W7 Pro, x64) on both DLNA and Network Share and streams files under DLNA smoothly. But when I want access via Network Share, it always ask me for username and password. But I already did everything including setting sharing rules, turning off firewall, adding Everyone permission...and all my other PC on the same network can see it and access without any password ... so does anyone has the same situation?

If you have Windows Live Essentials 2011 or Windows Live Sign-In Assistant installed, it's not going to work.

Ya... what Tony said.
I set all my permissions on the PC, I unboxed my Live and hooked it up... and got the password prompt and when I tried entering credentials, it wouldn't connect.
I uninstalled the Live Sign-In Assistant on the Win7 box, and my network shares work fine, with no password prompts.

Hello again Tony, Yes I had the same problem
Luckely I read your solution and that from Mike{Genius or ex ;-) I have set my system back and WDLIVE is seeing my shares again
Must I now also remove the progames in the app/software box ? It's not easy sometimes all the Englisch/American words, then my W 7 is in Dutch. And Tony, You sad, Microsoft will keep coming with this Live Essensial, what can I do about that ? I see in by my App/sofware now standing after Systeemrecovery__Windows Live aanmeldhulp{ helps with start Windows }
Windows Live Essentials
Windows Live Sync___WDLIVE is working
with Networkshares ! But how can it be, that after Systemrecovery this is still there ? Also I must still change my Password on the WDLIVE, but I cannot find your answer on that one Tony, Sorry ! I had write it down, but it's gone
Will You help me again, or is that not so important ? All the best, thanks in advance, and Take Care !

And maybe is stupid___but for all who use the WDLIVE___don't go too File-Sharing ! But take example Video, then > what you will choose__Network___Usb etc. I think going too the File Sharing is trouble, choose Networksharing !

I have the exact problem as the thread starter and I tried what you suggested tony in cmd. But like the TS I get an error after typing net view.
"System error 6118 has occured. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
The thing is I can see WDTV icon in Network folder.

**bleep** finally got net view to work. Had to enable computer browser in my Services panel. What a headache. So now in net view I only see \\WDTVLIVE and no other computer. I checked the nbstat on it and it isn't the master browser. What next?
My issue sometimes WDTV will let me see my network share and view movies but a few days later I can't connect to anything when I go to network share.

Wow. A necessary SERVICE was disabled?? I wonder if there's more going on on your PC then you're aware of.
SOMETHING turned that service off...
You could try reading here:
(Even though you fixed that error, it gives additional steps you didn't reference which might further help.)
