Potential WD TV Live buyer... two questions

Is WD typically good at updates and new feature requests?

That wholly depends.

A lot of the requests are simply impossible, so a large number are “ignored”.

If the Spotify features are based on the API that Spotify provides to WD, then it’d be up to Spotify to change things, before WD could.

This is similar to the YouTube interface… there are YT functions that you can access on a PC or laptop, that just aren’t provided by YT in the API interface… thus WD simply can not implement them, no matter how much people ask for them.  If YT did change the API to allow for them, then WD could add them to a future firmware.

WD seems wholly decent in trying to implement requests, but they are often limited in what they can actually do.

ETA:  And, unless someone grasps that YouTube won’t provide access to that feature to WD’s interface, for instance, people can just fall into the “but I can do it on my PC, why won’t you just add it???” trap, which just leads to bad feelings.
