Accessing media via WD TV Live..... please help

hello yes.
media player question

1: in my living room i have a wd tv live, connected wired to my network. i also have an extrernal hd connected to the wd tv live through the usb. (this is where i download movies and stuff, from my laptop)

2: in my bedroom i have a wd tv play, connected to mye network wired.

i want to be able to play movies on my WD TV Play in my bedroom, via the network without removing the HD from the WD TV Live in my livingroom and connecting it to the WD TV Play i my bedrrom. hmmm

how can i acces the files on the harddrive connected to the wd tv live usb in the livingroom? playing all different video formats on the one in my bedroom.

got it?

please help.

sincerely petter

You can’t. The WD Play needs an DLNA server rather than network shares to access files on another machine and your WDTV does not provide any.

aha. okay. thats lame.

how about a NAS External drive then?

will this do the trick?

ex the wd my book live?

cheers petter

Yes, the WD My Book Live drives have DLNA servers.  The MBL has two to pick from, Twonky and some WD proprietary built DLNA server, the MBL Duo only has the latter.

Of course you can also log in via SSH and add your own. I added MiniDLNA to my MBL. Don’t know if you lose the warranty though.
