WDTV Live/USB HDD freezing issues

Hello everyone,

I have a WDTV Live and whenever I connect my external USB hard drive to it, it will freeze the WDTV Live.  All I have on here are lots and lots of music files.  If I connect another drive with some .mkv movie files, it does not freeze the unit.

The hard drive I am connceting is USB powered.  I never had this issue in the past.  When I plug the drive into a computer, it reads it perfectly fine, no problems.

I have tried resetting the WDTV Live back to factory settings and I get the same issue - freezes the WDTV Live.  I let it sit for at least 30 minutes and it just sat there frozen.

Come on guys, 23 views and nobody can figure this out?   Perhaps I will return this box and go get a Roku or something.

Seems as if it’s working if I plug in the drive before starting the box… 

Anyway, I just wanted to comment and say I really hope WD provides more support to people who have problems with their equipment.

Glad you were able to get the drive working.

Seems like some problem while the WD is indexing the files.

You can always contact support directly if you continue to have issues with this.
