I have the first generation WDTV (not the mini). When I play MKV files with DTS I don’t hear any thing. I dont have a receiver, I want to hear it on the TV speakers. The HDTV is connected via HDMI cable.

I don’t think the WDTV HD Gen 1 supports DTS at all.
A Gen1 supports DTS on the optical output, but it won’t downmix the DTS stream. If you don’t have a DTS receiver, you need to rip the AC3 track, not the DTS track, when you’re ripping your DVD.
