So after racking my brain trying to connect my WD Live Hub to my iMac running Lion via SMB, I found the solution that worked for me.  Just follow this:

Worked perfectly.  I can now access my shares on my iMac.

This and running Playback to simplify iPhoto and iTunes access has made this the perfect Apple TV killer for me.
