No sound with MPEG 4

Hi
I stream avi files with no problem but mpeg4 I have no sound, picture is okay . Using either media share or network share outcome is the same. Using windows xp.

Appreciate any suggestions

Thank you

Stream to what device? What connection? What audio codec?

The sound in the AVI file is probably AC3 or AAC - one of those, the WD won’t play (I’m not home so can’t check which)…I’ve run into that problem…when I do, I have to re-encode the file to convert the audio to the other format.

The WDTV plays both AC3 and AAC.

Sometimes a video codec a WD does not like will break the sound, easiest way is to use Mediainfo on the file and paste the text output here.

I’ll try to find one of the AVIs I have the audio issue with and dig out the audio info in the file…

Just paste Mediainfo’s text output of this file here.

Video MP4/x264, Audio is AAC, streaming to 1st gen live plus, I reformat to AVI currently which takes time, looking for a quick fix…picture is great, no audio

Thanks

MP4 and AVI are containers so “reformating” (i.e. remuxing) from one to the other will take as much time as copying over the file. The WDTV Live (Plus) is perfectly capable of playing H264/AAC inside an mp4 container.

To reiterate

Why don’t I have sound in these files then?

.

We will not know until you post the mediainfo as requested a number of times.

Could be any number of reasons. Only we won’t be able to find out cause you just can’t be bothered to post the Mediainfo output despite being requested more than once.
