My WD TV HD Media Player won't play some avi's

Hello to everyone,

Since a couple of months ago, my WD TV HD Media Player (Gen 2) doesn’t play some of the avi movies. I got the message that is unable to play that video and to check the supported formats.

It plays other avi’s with no problem at all, but I’m not able to find the difference between the ones that work and the ones that doesn’t (using mediainfo).

Anyone could help me, please? I’m completely lost!

Thanks a lot.

Well post the text from mediainfo for the one of the files that does not play.

Did these non playing files ever play.

Thanks for your help.

I assume that this a torrent download. The problem with most downloads of this type is that they are sometimes encoded in a strange way which the WD media player does not like.

No solution then?
**bleep**!
Thanks a lot, Rich.

There can be a number of solutions.

You can re-encode them, which may take some time. (Huge number of free programs available)

You could try putting them in a mkv wrapper by using mkvmerge. (Quick and easy)

You could even try changing the extension from avi to mp4.(very easy)
