Hi there, I just bought the WD TV Live and I can’t play most of my video files. Here’s a sample that when I try to play it, the player shows the " Unable to play the selected file. See the manual". Here’s the info I get from VLC regarding two of the files. As hard as that is to read, and though it doesn’t indicate which AVC profile is in use, I can at least see:
Decoded format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV 10-bit LE
10-bit color space is not supported.
I don’t see anything in the second stream, but it also doesn’t say what Profile it is.

I already told you why the first file won’t work. Maybe the attachments are causing problems with the 2nd file. I don’t put attachments in my MKVs…
I think you will find that its all to do with internet downloads. A lot of users have problems playing these type of files on the WD player probably because they are encoded in some non-standard way.
