HDMI Pass Through Surround Sound not working - Sony Receiver

Hey Everyone,

I tried searching for this but came up empty handed. I can’t get a “sourround sound signal” to light up on my reciever.

I have a brand new WD Live (latest gen) and a brand new Sony STR-DH510 receiver.  There is a single HDMI cable connecting one to the other.

I configure the WD Live to do HDMI pass through, but when it auto detects functions, it only comes up with PCM 2 Channel, Sample 32, 44, 48.

On the reciever, all it ever shows is LPCM.

If I set manual settings on my WD Live, I don’t hear any audio at all.

When I play movies / content on my WD Live, it’ll say Audio: Dolby Digital or Audio: DTS — but I can never get my reciever to actually do anything with it.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any hints to help a brotha’ out?

Thanks,

-Josh

Well, it’s only been a few minutes since my last post, but rest assured I’ve spent hours trying to figure this out.

SOLUTION: Don’t use **bleep**ty HDMI cables.

I switched out the HDMI cable from the WD → Reciever and what-do-ya-know… everything works as designed.

:flushed:

Hope this helps somone out in the future!
