Compatibility with QNAP (NAS HDD)... Help! Please Read

Alright, so currently I’m just running Ext. HDD via USB to my WD TV Live, but am interested in purchasing a QNAP TS-220 or 221 NAS HDD Server. It has 3 USB ports, and supports file share and DLNA among the laundry list of other things it supports. Will my WD TV Live read my files as it does currently if this unit is connected via USB? Appreciate the time and help guys! Here is a link to the product I’m going to purchase =]

QNAP TS-220

It is not ment to be connected as a usb device. Connection is via network ans as such will servie your files in several waays, as a DLNA/media server, as a SMB/ccifs share or as a NFS (linux) share server. I do believe you need custom firmware to for the nfs option (WDlxTV).

Okay, so I’m reading and I see some people saying it will read it as an external source just as it does with my Seagate Externals… This is incorrect???

Would need to see it in context to know what they’re talking about.

most likely you will not be able to plug it in via usb to your WD

DNLA (media server) - should work on official firmware

CIFS (samba or windows shares) - should work on official firmware

NFS (linux shares) - requires WDLXTV firmware
