I run 3 x 3TB NAS drives and put a couple of individual Genre Folders on each drive. Then load V1.09.xx Firmware on a SMP (HUB will have an equivalent Fireware - 2 versions old try). That fireware allows for up to 20 Mapped folders across different drives (later firware only support 10).
That way I get all Genre Folders on one overview screen. Media Library turned ON and Source = “Media Library”. Works well and most time its fast and responsive.
