New Issue

PNG's do not display correctly for files/folder thumbnails.

Status: Investigating
by ‎10-05-2011 02:51 PM - edited ‎02-29-2012 04:18 PM

FW: 2.07.10

This has been an issue with all firmware versions.

Although pngs will display for thumbnails, they do not display correctly.  They will display distorted and will not display the transparency layer, also as a png, they do not display for the "@@poster" image.

The only way to make pngs display corrrectly is to use the work-around of manually changing the extension from .png to .jpg, then the image will display correctly (transparent layer is used and it will display as "@@poster" image).  However, this work-around does not work for folder thumbnails.

UPDATE: 10-6-11

FW: 2.08.13

Now with the newest firmware the work-around of changing the extension from a .png to .jpg doesn't work.  If you change the extension the thumbnail does not display.  It will only display if you keep the .png extension, but it does not display as true .png.

There also appears issues with how it is dispalying "@@poster" for files.  The poster for folders now display (and does so correctly, although distorted), however, the poster for files is being cut off.

To demenstrate:

This is how the "@@poster" appears for folders:

As it appears on screen.                                  The original.

Action.jpg          action2.jpg

For files:

As it appears on screen.                                  The original.

16 BLOCKS2.png           16 BLOCKS.png

This was not an issue in previous firmwares.  Also, this is my "@@poster" line in rv_gallery_browse_page.xml for my theme:

    <image image="@@poster" x="54" y="129" w="192" h="365" align="top" scale="100" scale_type="fixratio" selected_scale="100" />

UPDATE 11-18-11

FW: 3.00.08

Same issue persists as with version 2.08.13

UPDATE  2-29-12

FW: 3.03.13

This issue is still not resolved.  Still can not display TRUE pngs for files/folders, and the cropping issue still persists.

We're looking into this. When your image displays "distorted", is it just a white background or are there other problems?

Why are you releasing updates to the firmware for the streaming media player and not the streaming media hub? I have both. Now the streaming media player has many more things under services and the streaming media hub is lacking many of the services available to the media player. Update both at the same time. Why would you fail to update the more expensive product? Makes no sense to me.

Incorrect Thumbnail Cropping / Distorted Quality due to overcompression

Which device?

WDTV LIVE HUB (HENCE THE CATEGORY OF THIS THREAD)

-

Which firmware?

2.08.13

-

Thumbnails that are being created by the hub and stored into the Thumb folder are massively overcompressed and crop the image incorrectly

VIEW THE EXAMPLE

I have tried to reproduce the compression and noticed that there is a 73% compression which leaves the image with 23% of it's originak quality.

On my TV (Samsung UE55 D8000 - German Name / Samsung UN55D8000YF - US Name) this cannot be accepted for High Def Entertainment.

The images are shrinked and cropped without anti aliasing that which makes the image loose visible content on top of that the overcompression and the lack of rounded edges cause the mosaic effect that must be prevented from showing on the final thumbnail.

Video (.mkv) stutter / lag

Status: In Review
by ‎09-22-2012 03:25 PM - edited ‎09-30-2012 11:43 AM

Hello,

Since the latest firmware upgrade for the WD TV Live Hub, I've been experiencing lag and stuttering when playing movies. Some movies play perfectly fine, others start to lag after a while. Often near the end of the file.

Stopping and then resuming playback usually solves the problem, only to have it resume lagging after a few minutes.

Thusfar I've mainly experienced the problem with .mkv files (once with an .avi). Before the last upgrade everything worked perfectly. I haven't changed any of my settings, I transfer files from my pc to the hub over my network, and then play the files from the internal hard drive of the hub. So no streaming.

I hope it's an issue with the firmware, or something else that's potentially solvable.

-

Which firmware?

3.07.14

-

What happened?

Stuttering / lag.

-

What were you doing?

Watching a video file (mkv)

-

Does this happen every time?

No, but

-

What hardware and media were you using?

WD TV LIve Hub, mkv media files

-

Have you tried this on other devices?

UPDATE: September 30th, 2012. I've encountered similar problems now with .mp4 files. File starts stuttering and won't stop untill I either restart the file or fast forward a bit and resume playback. It's becoming incredibly annoying. Would be nice to get some feedback on the issue.

UPDATE #2: Tried to play some of the files from an attached usb drive. Still experiencing the issues above. Therefore I think we can conclude that the internal hard drive is fine.

Live Hub FW 3.12.13

1. I add a network folder to the Media Library and then add it to Favorites.

2. I choose the Favorite from the Dashboard. I get the error "The last Content source has been removed." I press OK and I'm taken to the "Select Content Source"dialog. The folder is listed and I can access the contents.

This happens every time.

It did not happen with previous FW.

Power cycling does not solve it.

Factory reset does not solve it.

Just upgraded to 3.00.28.  Tried to upgrade to 2.08.13 prior to release of 3.00.28 but that version would not play my movies.  So I downgraded to 2.06.10.  When 3.00.28 came out,  I switched the unit to auto check for upgrade.  It auto upgraded to 2.08.13 then auto upgraded to 3.00.28.  My movies play fine so far, but all thumbnails / cover art for the movies in gallery view (or any other view for that matter) no longer display.  I can download movie info xml and dbmeta file, and movie info displays fine, and a .jpg file is located in each movie's directory, but nothing gets displayed when browsing on the live hub.

Twonky media server empty

Status: More Info Needed
by on ‎12-04-2013 02:26 PM
I have just noticed today that my twonky media library is empty. I have checked from multiple devices and a web interface to the twonky interface on port 9000 which also shows zero files. I haven't changed any settings and the media sever is enabled. I am on the latest firmware and this hasn't happened before. Device restart isn't helping. Any help appreciated.

Device reboots when browsing through files after Firmware Upgrade 3.03.13

Status: Resolved
by ‎03-08-2012 09:52 AM - edited ‎03-10-2012 07:35 PM

To Whom it May Concern:

- What hardware and media were you using?

  • WD TV Live Hub
  • WD My Book Live 2TB Network Storage Device (NAS) running Twonky Media Server 5.1.9
  • Browsing through music, photo and video media files (but not actually using them at the time)

- Which firmware?

  • WD TV Live Hub - Release 3.03.13 (2/29/2012)
  • WD My Book Live NAS - Release 02.10.09-124

- Device Setup:

  • This device is not used to stream media to the network.  It is used to play media on the NAS and via the provided streaming services.
  • DLNA Media Server OFF
  • iTunes Server OFF
  • Sync from USB Storage OFF
  • Sync content from a Network Shared Folder OFF
  • Autoplay OFF
  • Media Library OFF
  • Get Content Info - MANUAL ONLY
  • Mobile Sharing OFF
  • Music Playback Mode - REPEAT AND SHUFFLE

- What happened?
Device reboots while browsing through files when scrolling continuously. Specifically:

  • Turn on Device normally.
  • Browse to Music, Videos or Photos.
  • Browse to and select (with the OK button) the "All Tracks", "All Photos" or "All Videos" folder.
  • Press and hold the right arrow key.
  • After a number of pages the device reboots.  It only took a few (less than 10) pages for Music before it rebooted.  I had to scroll through many more pages in Photos before it rebooted and videos were somewhere inbetween.

- What were you doing?
Scrolling to the right by holding the right arrow key down on the remote control while in the "All Tracks" folder within "Music"; "All Photos" folder within "Photos"; or "All Videos" folder within "Videos".

- Does this happen every time?
Yes.

- Did this happen with previous firmware?
No. This was never a problem with any of the prior versions.

- Does power cycling the unit solve this?
No.

- Does resetting to factory defaults solve this?

  • Not sure exactly how to do this and what settings I will lose if I do.
  • Will I have to redo the numerous firmware updates again after resetting to factory default?

- Have you tried this on other devices?

  • Yes.  I also have a WD TV Live Streaming Media player (SMP) [Firmware Release 1.07.15 (2/29/2012)] which behaves exactly like this.
  • With the previous firmware for the WD TV Live SMP, it did not have this problem either.

- Additional Information:

  • The "Music", "Video" and "Photos" are all set up to use the Twonky Media server running on the NAS.  While it's never been my favorite way play music (I'm a fan of foobar2000), it at the very least has always worked.
  • The Twonky Setup has not been changed from the how it was set up while running the prior firmware and was working properly.
  • Scrolling through files never used to cause a reboot.
  • The NAS has about 11,200 music files (99% are MP3's), 50,500 photos (99% are JPG's) and 2,300 videos (widely varying file formats and sizes).

Please update your WDTV to firmware version 3.05.10. This issue had been resolved. Thank you.

Hi,

WDTV Live Hub 3.11.10 FW

> All content located on, and served from, internal storage, about 500GB populated various media.

> Media Library set to *off* - I use folders and folder views only for all media types.

Secondary Issue: On occasion, averaging around once every 10 days, device starts to take anything up to 10 seconds to respond to a command, say, pause, or stop etc. Similar lags in response times are encountered when navigating the internal folder/file structure.  A device power cycle resolves such issues every time and I could prob live with this (every computer deserves a reboot now and then). However, this exposes the...

Primary Issue: Every time the device is power-cycled, the WD logo on the front of the device starts flashing and "Loading" comes up on screen. The device remains unusable during this period which I have timed at 40 minutes. The device appears to compiling a library or similar but, as above, my media library manager is turned off, I have never  used it. So what is it doing, and why?

This has happened since I got the HUB and has persisted through about 3 or 4 different firmware versions.

Restoring to factory defaults does not modify this behaviour.

This thread from 2011 describes my problem exactly:

http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Hub-General/Incredibly-long-boot-time/td-p/193042/page/2

The outcome there was an RMA but my device is OOW and as the unit performs very well (well at least for a week or so ref issue 1 above) following boot-up, I can't imagine that the device is completely 'bricked' and somebody may have  come up with a solution in the interim.

If not, then I guess I have no choice but to attempt re-format of the drive (unsuccessful for the user in question) but this would be a last resort as I would like to avoid the 500GB copy-back if at all possible.

Any advice gratefully received.

Orson.

5.1 PCM Passthrough Issue

Status: In Review

Hey everyone,

This problem has happend to me in the past but after the last firmware update has happened to every mkv file I try to play. After about 20 minutes or so (not exactly 20 minutes with different mkv files) into the movie, the playback stops, cuts to black, and returns to the movie folder. When I try to play the movie again, it does not resume playback, but starts from the beginning and it will cut to black at the same time if I let it continue playing. However, if I fast-forward past the time where it usually cuts out, it will resume playback for a couple of minutes before the issue happens again. This continues over the course of the entire movie and I am getting tired of continuously having to fast-forward to my location each time it cuts out.

I have reset the HUB to factory settings and the issue still persists.

Anyone else having this problem? It appears to be the firmware, not the mkv files themselves because I can stream the movies from the HUB, to a computer and play with VLC with smooth, uninteruppted playback.

Thanks for the help!

Youtube Leanback app crashes WD tv live hub

Youtube leanback app crashes after playing the first video in a tv queue.

-Which firmware? 3.11.10 (3/28)
-What happened? wdtv live hub reboots unexpectedly
-What were you doing? watching youtube leanback
-Does this happen every time? Yes
-What hardware and media were you using? wd tv live hub 1TB, youtube leanback app
-Did this happen with previous firmware? No
-Does power cycling the unit solve this? No
-Does resetting to factory defaults solve this? No
-Have you tried this on other devices? Yes, works on bluray player and xb360

I tried unplugging the WD TV Live hub and leaving it overnight, resetting online accounts, and finally resetting to factory defaults.

If you place videos in your tv queue, the device reboots after playing the first one. If the first video is very short, 5-15 seconds, the device sometimes continues to the next video and then crashes when that video finishes.

An app should not cause the device to reboot.

Issue report submitted.

At some point after the 2.07.17 build, you changed the method in which you expect folders to be organized, specific to VOB's.  Cover art on any VOB title utilizing a name->video_ts structure was instantly broken.

I don't want to use custom themes.  I don't want to use moviesheets.  I simply want to drop my video files onto unit like I did with 2.07.17, use the built-in function to get content info.

Please fix whatever you broke when you moved past 2.07.17.  I am sick of not being able to take of any new features because I can't upgrade past this old build.  This has been posted numerous times across this forum and no efforts have been made to remedy this issue.
