Mkv file stopping every 5 min

Hi every one, I’ d like to know if some of you already experienced the same issue. Yesterday I wanted to watch Oceans, the documentary, it’s an +8Gb file Oceans.2009.1080p.BluRay.x264 BITRATE: 12043 Kbps VIDEO RESOLUTION: 1920x816 ASPECT: 2.35:1 AUDIO FORMAT: DTS BITRATE:1510 kbps LANGUAGE: ENGLISH But it stops about every 5 min. Any ideas ?

Sounds like a network bandwidth problem. How do you access the movie? via Hardwired network or wireless?

In the case of wireless, it won’t handle 1080, you’d probably get away with 720. Also not sure about the bitrate of 12043? someone else may comment on that as it can impact on performance.

The file is on the hdd of the WD…

reset the box

Just done it… nothing changes… still stopping…

Its mostly likely to do with the fact that its a pirate copy. You get what you pay for.

Those who has never downloaded, throw me the first stone…

I’m not judging you. I’m simply suggesting why it does not work.

Is it just this video or do similar videos play fine?

If so, does it play on your PC using VLC?

Also, try copying to your HUB to confirm it’s not the USB drive.

We need to know if it’s the file or your device that’s at fault before we can continue.

It’s my only 1080p file It has been copied from the PC to the hub. I’ll copy it back to PC and check with VLC…

Use MediaInfo and post the full text output.

Whether it’ll play in VLC is kind of irrelevant; VLC is designed to play even broken files and is very forgiving of bad encodings.

Rich’s point stands: when you encode things yourself, you can be sure it’ll play. Maybe the MediaInfo will reveal what’s wrong with the file.

Here’s the MediaInfo results:

It says in the device specs that it only supports up to L4.1.

Even though your MediaInfo “says” it’s L4.1 (because that’s what it’s being told to say by the file), the actual L4.1 spec only allows 4 ReFrames @ 1920x1080.

It’s encoded out of spec, and is beyond the device capabilities – the chip is just struggling with playback.

You’ll have to encode it in something the device actually supports.

Thanks, I’ll reincode to lower specs.
