Public & Upload folders

Is there anyway I can stop the Hub displaying the Public & Upload folders that are created by my router on My Book 3tb usb hdd attached to it ?

Hello,

Check the settings on your network to see if you can stop sharing an specific folder through your network.

Currently, through the hub settings, you wont be able to do that.

Two thoughts.

  1. I have not used the media library in over a year so I may be off on this, but what about setting up the shares you do want to use in the media library and just use that as your defaut view.

  2. If you can rename the shares, the WD Device will not see directories that start with a period (.Public or .upload)

Not sure if either of those will work for you but worth a shot

Good Luck

Might be a way using ipsec.msc in Windows 7 Pro or above.

Media library isn’t on. Was not allowed to put fullstop in front of folder name.

So have just created folders in Public (movies,tv series etc) and made linksheet & folder.jpg that are titled Movies & TV Series for it, did same with Upload folder( Music) and created linksheet & jpg titled Music.

Works ok, just means an extra press of the ok button on remote.

It’s a shame the netcomm router creates these folders automatically.

Thanks for help

If you are using windows explorer you cannot put a . before the folder name but you can with other programs such as ExplorerXP.

Also easily done from the command prompt.

  1. Open a command prompt (cmd.exe)

  2. Change directories or drives to where the directory you want to rename is.

  3. Use → ren “foldername” “.foldername”
